M&M BROWNIE INGREDIENTS

  • Box Brownie Mix:  Flour, sugar, and leavening – all built in. It delivers the perfect brownie flavor, with room to add ingredients that take it to the next level. This is the base of your brownies and the key to getting that perfect fudgy texture.
  • Melted Butter: Melted butter adds richness and moisture that makes the brownies soft and tender. It also helps intensify the chocolate flavor and gives the brownies that slightly glossy, chewy edge we all love. I love using salted butter for these chewy m&m brownies.
  • Egg + Egg Yolk: Eggs provide structure and help the brownies hold together, while the extra yolk adds even more richness and moisture. This combination is what gives these brownies that chewy-yet-dense texture that keeps them from being cakey or dry!
  • Water: Water helps bring the batter together, ensuring it’s smooth and spreadable. It also slightly loosens the mix so the brownies bake evenly without being too thick and dense.
  • Chocolate Chips: Chocolate chips add little pockets of melty chocolate throughout the brownies. They create extra texture and flavor in every bite, making the brownies taste even more indulgent and chocolate perfection.
  • Mini M&Ms: Colorful M&Ms aren’t just for fun – they add crunch, chocolatey bursts, and a playful pop of color to every brownie. They hold their shape when baked just enough to create that fun texture contrast!

TIPS & TRICKS FOR SUPER FUDGY BROWNIES

  1. Let Them Cool! Let them cool at least 30-45 minutes before cutting. This allows time for the brownies to set and keeps those fudgy centers.
  2. Yolk It Up. Swap 2 whole eggs for 1 egg + 1 yolk. That extra yolk = rich, gooey, fudgy magic.
  3. Stir, Don’t Whip. Mix until everything’s just combined. Overmixing sneaks in too much air and gives you cake-y brownies (and we’re not here for that).
  4. Chocolate on Chocolate. Fold in chocolate chips for melty pockets of goodness in every bite.
  5. Toothpick Trick. Bake until a toothpick comes out with a few fudgy crumbs, not completely clean—that’s when you know they’re just right.
  6. Parchment Lifesaver. Line your pan with parchment and leave a little overhang, so you can lift the whole slab out without any mess.

Description

These fudgy m&m brownies are the sweetest way to bring color to your dessert table! This brownie recipe has the perfect balance of fudgy and chewy, packed with colorful m&m’s and melty chocolate chips throughout.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 Box Brownie Mix
  • 1/2 cup Melted Butter (salted)
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 Egg Yolk
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • 1/2 cup Mini M&Ms (see instructions)
  • 1/2 cup Chocolate Chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat & Prep: Start by preheating the oven to 325°F. Prepare a parchment lined 8×8 inch square pan with baking spray or a homemade pan release. Let the parchment hang over the edges—instant handles!
  2. Melt Butter: In a microwave-safe bowl, microwave the butter at 15-30 second intervals until completely melted. Set aside
  3. Combine the Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, add the brownie mix, egg, egg yolk, melted butter, and water. Stir until the batter is almost combined—don’t over-mix.

  4. Chocolate Chips: Add the mini m&m’s (reserve 1 tablespoon for topping) and chocolate chips to the brownie batter and gently fold them in with a spatula until evenly distributed.

  5. Spread Evenly: Spread brownie batter into 8×8 prepared baking dish, until evenly spread.

  6. Bake: Bake for 40 minutes.

  7. Top with Mini M&Ms: Pull brownie out of the oven, sprinkle with reserved mini m&m’s.
  8. Finish Baking: Bake for another 5-10 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out mostly clean with just a few moist crumbs. We don’t want a completely clean toothpick, we want these fudgy!
  9. Cool Down: Don’t skip the cooling time! These brownies finish setting as they cool. For clean slices and the best fudgy texture, let them cool fully (or even chill briefly) before cutting & enjoying.

Notes

Brownie Mix: My favorite brownie mix is Duncan Hines-Dark Chocolate Fudge (18.2 oz).
